There's a rematch brewing in Florida House District 87, where Democrat Emily Gregory upset Republican Jon Maples in a special election last week.
The district, which includes Mar-a-Lago, was vacated back in August when Governor DeSantis appointed former Republican State Representative Mike Caruso to be Palm Beach County's Clerk of Court of Comptroller. He won re-election to the seat by 19 points in 2024.
Almost immediately after the results came in last Tuesday night, Gregory made it clear that she would be running for a full term in November and opened a campaign account on Friday.
Maples yesterday did the same, though he could have to win another primary before there would be an official rematch. Maples received the endorsement of House Speaker-designate Sam Garrison.
The official qualifying period for Legislative seats will be in June.
