As Confederate Monuments Come Down, One In WPB Is Vandalized

US-CRIME-SHOOTING-FLAG

As communities around the country remove Confederate monuments in the wake of the events in Charlottesville, someone vandalized one such monument in our area.

The structure inside the Woodlawn Cemetery in West Palm Beach features the Confederate flag and now red arrows point to that, along with the word "Antifa", which is short for the left wing "Anti-Fascist" movement.

The red spray paint also shows the words "---- Nazi and KKK" and there are stone pieces broken off the monument.

While the cemetery is owned by the city, the monument is privately owned by the United Daughters of the Confederacy.  The city has been attempting to get the organization to remove it in recent months.

West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio says the city's Parks and Recreation Department will get it cleaned up.  The monument has been in the cemetery since 1941.

Police say they are investigating to find out who vandalized it.
