Catholic Charities has opened several Hurricane Irma Recovery Centers across Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.
The social services arm of the Diocese of Palm Beach says the centers will provide a variety of services to those in the area who suffered hurricane-related losses. They'll do an assessment of family needs and offer assistance for basic needs along with information to help families.
Sheila Gomez, Executive Director of Catholic Charities, says there are people who are not eligible for FEMA assistance and others who are just now recognizing their actual damage. Some people have been out of work since the hurricane are now falling behind on their monthly bills. She says this is their mission to help those in need, regardless of religion.
The new centers have opened this week in communities near Lake Okeechobee and Fort Pierce, but assistance is also offered at the non-profit's office at St. Francis Center in Riviera Beach.
